ALARIC TAY

Born on June 26, 1979, and the only child of divorced parents, Alaric was born and raised on the tropical island city of Singapore. With a strong Christian background, his mother, a primary school teacher, raised him with a strict legalistic upbringing. Ironically, he would later passionately pursue entertainment as the career of his choice.

Despite firm resistance from his family to embark into entertainment, Alaric began seeking out professional acting work at the age of sixteen. He received his first television job on Channel 8’s Kung Fu Master, as the backside of a lion.

With little luck in the Mandarin department, he moved to English programs. After a year of fumbling around with miscellaneous roles on channel 5, his big break finally came when he landed a supporting role in the Miramax film That's the Way I Like It (aka Forever Fever), directed by Glen Goei.

Since appearing as Adrian Pang’s adorable sidekick in Forever Fever, Alaric’s television career began to take off. The versatility of this young actor became apparent in the myriad of roles he took on for numerous shows, including leading roles in several telemovies, and even as an episodic regular on the popular drama-comedy, Money. His comedic notoriety finally made him a household name when he took on the persona of Andre Chichak and other hilarious personalities in the popular sketch comedy series, The Noose. In early 2007, Director Han Yew Kwang offered him a lead role in his romantic comedy 18 Grams of Love, playing an eccentric writer who suspects his wife is having an affair. The film went on to win several awards at The Lyon Asian Film Festival and the Offensiva Film Festival.

Alaric’s talent has not been limited to the craft of acting. A gifted orator, he has also hosted a variety of road shows to Dinner-&-dances, to high profile banquets involving national statesmen, politicians and ambassadors.

With various performance credits to his name, Alaric is also an award-winning filmmaker. His film When We Were Bengs snagged 3 prizes at the ReelHeART International Film Festival 2007, for Best Experimental Film, Best Sound and Best Editing, while his short documentary Journey of Change has garnered critical acclaim among audiences at its special screenings in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the United States.

A student of the late John Spencer (The West Wing), and a former artiste of the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company (SAF MDC), Alaric is an active member of the entertainment community. He serves on the board of the NP Film, Sound and Video Alumni Chapter as Vice-President and continues to maintain his association with Breaking Into Hollywood. He also holds a Bachelor of Film & Television from the Griffith Film School, Griffith University.

Alaric is currently in development for his first feature film. He resides in Singapore.
